Sensitive matters

It is against the national interest to cast aspersions, which cannot be substantiated, about foreign countries with whom Pakistan has economic links and trade relations. Foreign policy issues should only be discussed in exclusive parliamentary committees, or on the floor of parliament. They are too sensitive an issue to be a subject of populist political campaigns or propaganda. This should be a taboo, even during election campaigns. Any adverse public comments, especially by key members of political parties, can impair our relations with friendly countries.

It is completely unacceptable and irresponsible behaviour. Our known foreign enemies are already busy in pursuit of policies to isolate Pakistan, spreading fake news or fabricating allegations to harm the national interests of the country. Hence, when national political parties get involved in such irresponsible discourse, it is a cause for concern.
