NEW DELHI: Marcus Stoinis’s desire to keep playing international cricket beyond the T20 World Cup in June has not been diminished by Cricket Australia’s decision to drop him from the central contracts list, the all-rounder said.
Stoinis looks certain to be named in Australia’s squad for the World Cup in West Indies and the United States, and the Lucknow Super Giants batter provided a glimpse of his best form with a blistering hundred in the Indian Premier League on Tuesday. The 34-year-old smashed an unbeaten 124 off 63 balls as Lucknow beat hosts Chennai Super Kings by six wickets to break into the top four in the points table.
“Me not getting a contract, I knew that a while ago,” Stoinis said after Lucknow’s fifth win in eight matches. “I think it’s great to give younger kids a crack and let them take my spot. I’m absolutely fine with that on the contract list. “But on the playing front, I still obviously want to make sure that I’m there, and that’s also why it’s so lucky for us and for me particularly to have this competition (the IPL).”
