Rizvi takes over as capital IGP

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has finally relieved DIG Operations, Lahore Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi to assume his new posting as the Inspector General of Islamabad Police.

The Establishment Division had notified Rizvi’s appointment as IGP Islamabad on March 30, but the Punjab government refused to relieve him saying they were already short of officers.

Rizvi has been made IGP in the presence of three senior officers of DIG rank. The senior officers are Hassan Raza Khan, Malik Awais Ahmad from 29th Common and Khurram Shahzad Janbaz from 30th Common.

Rizvi took the charge of the office on Monday. The Establishment Division issued a notification on April 21, stating, “Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi (PSP/BS-20) is relieved of his duties from the Province of Punjab to join his new assignment as Inspector General of Islamabad Police under the Interior Ministry.”

Sources said the incoming IGP belonged to 31st Common. Before assuming the charge, he visited the Martyrs Monument and offered fateha. The police spokesman said the officers of all ranks, welcomed the newly appointed IGP when he reached the IGP office.

Rizvi addressed the police officers and spoke about his preference for countering crimes and terrorism. He joined the police force on April 19, 2004 and started his carrier on 20th October, 2005 from Kasur as ASP (Under Training).

During his 19-year service, he mostly served in Punjab, especially in Lahore. He was also posted in Quetta and Tharparker for a short term, as per his profile.
