Sri Lanka win international trophy in National Amateur

ISLAMABAD: Sri Lanka team won the international trophy beating two Pakistan teams under rainy skies in the 63rd National Amateur Golf Championship at the rain-soaked Margalla Greens course on the second day on Friday.

After winning the JR Jayawardene Trophy on the opening day Thursday, Uchitha Akash and Chalitha Pushpika came hard again on the second day by carding three over 72 and 73 respectively to get an aggregate score of 293 aggregate over 36 holes to win the Trophy.

Arsalan Khan and Noman Ilyas who make the Pakistan A team were far behind with an aggregate score of 313 over two days. They managed a poor 163 on the second day Arsalan carding 18 over 86 for the day.

Federal team won the Inter-association team match with Ralfee Aslam Raja and Imran Rana and Raja M Israr 449 in aggregate over 36 holes. Punjab team consisting of Salman Jahangir, Malik Shoaib and Nauman Ilyas finishing a stroke adrift.

Punjab Association however won the senior amateur team event with Mohammad Asim Tiwana, Tariq Mehmood and Nasir Irshad carding 467 in aggregate. The Federal Association finished second while it had to contend with third position.

In the individual category, Ralfee Raja is leading by three strokes over Uchitha Akash of Sri Lanka and three others. Raja carded one under 71 on the second day to take his aggregate score of 143, three strokes ahead of Sri Lankan golfer who is tied with Malik Shoaib, Abdullah Ansar Raja and Shahzeb Jehan. All are on four over 146 in aggregate.
