* Was raised by his grandparents in China till age 5; eventually emigrating to rejoin his parents in Canada.
* Studied business administration at university.
* Worked as an accountant before deciding to pursue a career in acting.
* Worked as an extra and stuntman before getting his first significant role in the series Blood and Water (2015–2016).
* Gained recognition after appearing in the sitcom Kim’s Convenience, and then earned global fame after joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Shang-Chi, starting with the film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021).
