LAHORE: Syedal Khan Nasir, the newly-elected Deputy Chairman of Senate, belongs to Duki area — one of Pakistan’s least developed districts — of Balochistan.
Belonging to middle class, he has been a PMLN worker since the days when no one could dare stand for the party in Balochistan. He has made his parliamentary debut transparently in the Upper House — first as its member and then as its deputy chairman.
Political observers say that at a time when parties face accusations of giving tickets to influential groups and lobbies of various kinds, PMLN Quaid Nawaz Sharif’s decision to reward a party loyalist deserves appreciation. Introducing a middle class representative to the top parliamentary echelons is indeed a good omen for national politics, they added.
