Real concerns

As a senior member of the legal fraternity, I am ashamed of the way the nation’s time and energy is being wasted on useless issues concerning allegations being made by certain state officials who were more than willing to dismiss them when raised by others in the past. Our office-holders tend to conveniently forget that protecting the fundamental rights of the citizens is the essence of their existence. This means addressing concerns like food inflation, ever-increasing electricity and gas rates, and the unreliable supply of the very basic utilities that people are being asked to pay more for.

Access to food, power, and heating are fundamental rights. Meanwhile, parliament remains seemingly apathetic to these concerns and willing to secure an IMF bailout at any cost. It is imperative to focus on economic revival and harness domestic manpower to cater for basic needs. We must escape the cycle of depriving the people in order to secure foreign loans to pay off older foreign loans.
