The UNDP’s Human Development Report for 2023-24 ranks Pakistan 164 out of 193 countries. The previous year’s report ranked us at 161 out of virtually the same number of countries. The HDI measures countries' achievements in health, education and standard of living. Pathetic is the situation of all these indicators across the country and no one, or near as many, in a position of power bothers to do anything about it. They all seem only concerned with themselves and how fast they can get their families out of this country and into the ones with the highest HDI scores. Our state organizations stagnate and the political leadership has its own agenda. Who will take strides to improve Pakistan’s HDI?
