According to documents available with “Jang”, the Department of Law and Parliamentary Affairs will present Punjab Civil Servants (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 in the Assembly for extension on Thursday (today). The Ordinance came into force on January 8, 2024 and expired on April 7, 2024.

The Minister for Parliamentary Affairs will submit a resolution for extension of these ordinances.

After that, said ordinances will not be amended further, and the government will have to get a bill passed regarding these amendments. The Ordinance amended Section 2 of the Punjab Civil Servant Act VIII of 1974. Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, as per the Ordinance, both the government, as employer, and the government employee will contribute to the pension account. Such contribution shall be invested in the pension fund till retirement of the government servant.

The balance accumulated in the pension account at the time of retirement will be reinvested to generate monthly pension. The Defined Contribution Pension Scheme will be applicable to government servants recruited on or after the date of implementation of the Ordinance.

The government will also present the Punjab Agriculture Marketing Regulatory Authority (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 in the Assembly for extension. The other ordinances which will be extended are Punjab Health Care Commission (Amendment) Ordinance 2023 and Punjab Price Control of Essential Commodities (Amendment) Ordinance.
