This letter refers to the article ‘The meaning of democracy’ (March 15, 2024) by Kamila Hyat. The writer has very ably highlighted the constant irregularities in our election results and has suggested that “we need to put in place a body that can correctly oversee elections and their outcome as is the case for the most part in neighbouring countries”.
However, this fails to address the problem of the unelected overstepping their bounds. Solving this issue requires unity among all political parties. The sooner they realize this the better. Political stability and economic development will materialize when governments are made only through free and fair elections.
