Shock research released this week warned that three out of four countries could experience "underpopulation" by 2050 as a result of the global decline in birth rates, mainly in the Western countries.

This could increase to 97% of all countries by 2100, in what scientists have called a "staggering social change", according to Daily Mail.

As to the study published in the reputable medical magazine The Lancet, countries like the US and Britain that are considered powerhouses will need to depend more on immigration to prevent the “immense” dangers that the situation poses.

Scientists assert that public services and economic growth are at jeopardy if an ageing population is not replenished.

More than 75% of nations, according to study, won't have high enough fertility rates by 2050 to maintain population growth. By 2100, this will increase to 97% of all countries.

Notably, Elon Musk has a fondness for the idea that "baby busts" could lead to a population decline. The eccentric billionaire Tesla claimed in 2017 that although Earth's population was "accelerating towards collapse, few seem to notice or care."
