ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Wednesday objected to the appointment of charman of the Indus River System Authority (IRSA), terming it a violaton of the constitutional procedures.
Speaking during the National Assembly session, PPP MNA member Syed Naveed Qamar criticised the caretaker government’s decision to empower the prime minister to appoint the IRSA chairman. He called for the immediate withdrawal of the ordinance and adherence to constitutional principles. He urged the government to provide assurances on the floor of the house regarding this matter.
Meanwhile, the Sindh cabinet also expressed its reservations about the appointment of the IRSA chairman, stating that it violates the water accord.
