People with written-off loans to face action: Shahbaz

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that getting loans written off is a serious crime, and those who got their loans written off will have to face accountability.

He was talking to senior journalists, editors, columnists and anchorpersons at Governor's House on Saturday. He said the corruption of those who got their loans written off had been proved and the State Bank had their list. He said the names of those who usurped earnings of poor people deposited in banks had come to the fore. He said that the families who got their loans written off also have off-shore companies.

sit-ins: Shahbaz Sharif has said that those fond of sit-ins and politics of protests are trying to create hurdles in the way of welfare programmes for the poor as they have no interest in their betterment.

He said that people were aware of the designs of these elements and they would again face failure like they faced in the past.

He said this while talking to Provincial Minister for Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Maal Syed Haroon Sultan Bukhari who called on him.

He said a large number of people were benefiting from the welfare programmes worth billions of rupees launched by the provincial government.

He said that Khidmat Card Programme was also continuing successfully for providing financial assistance to the disabled persons. He said more than 65,000 deserving disabled persons had been issued Khidmat Cards so far.

The chief minister said that more than 1,50,000 talented boy and girl students were benefiting from Punjab Educational Endowment Fund. He said that more than 1.5 million children of poor families were being equipped with education through Punjab Education Foundation. He said that free boarding facilities along with quality education were being provided to the boys and girls of poor families in Daanish schools. Shahbaz Sharif said that the youth were being provided with interest-free loans to start their own businesses. . He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, the journey of progress of the country would continue.

labourers’ welfare: Shahbaz Sharif has said that labourers play a key role in strengthening the national economy.

He said International Labour Day was observed in the memory of those who laid down their lives for their rights. He said on this day, there was a need to renew the pledge that all-out support would be extended for the welfare of labourers and protection of their rights.

In an International Labour Day message, the chief minister said that the government was paying full attention to the welfare of the worker community. He said that workforce of the country had full potential to achieve the targets of development. He said that workforce was the backbone of industry and economy, therefore, Punjab government had taken solid and historic measures for the welfare of labourers. He said that a number of programmes were being implemented for the provision of treatment and residential facilities to the labourers as well as quality education to their children.
