Bradley Cooper took some time before he truly felt like a father to his daughter Lea.
During his appearance on Dax Shepher’ds Armchair Expert podcast on Monday, the 49-year-old actor got raw and honest about fatherhood, admitting that at first, he didn’t relate to other parents when they would say, “I would die in a second for my kid.”
“For the first eight months – I don’t even know if I really love the kid,” he reflected.
“That’s my experience. Fascinated by it. Loved taking care of it. But would I die if someone came in with a gun?” he mused.
However, the Hangover star reflected that at some point, he felt an overnight switch.
“And then all of a sudden, it’s like no question,” he said.
Elsewhere on the podcast, the Star is Born actor confessed, “I’m not sure I’d be alive if I wasn’t a dad.”
He further reflected that he ever since becoming a father, he strives to be a better person every day in order to “do the least amount of damage that [he] could do to [his] daughter.”

Cooper welcomed Lea with ex Irina Shayk in 2017.
The on-off couple split in 2019 after four years together, though they maintain an amicable co-parenting relationship and were even seen on holiday together.
However, Cooper has since moved on with supermodel Gigi Hadid, with whom he was first romantically linked in October 2023.
