Ziauddin University confers 1,091 degrees on students

Ziauddin University (ZU) awarded 1,091 degrees to the graduating students for various disciplines at the Convocation 2024 held at the Education City, Link Road, Site, Karachi, on Saturday.

At the 21st ZU Convocation, graduating students were conferred degrees in various disciplines, including medicine, dental surgery, law, PharmD, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physical education health and sports science, medical technology, biomedical engineering, civil engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, biotechnology, business administration, electrical engineering technology, biomedical engineering technology, civil engineering technology, management & technology, data science, communication & media studies, digital media marketing, audiology and speech language therapy, nursing, eastern medicine & surgery, language, and BEd. Additionally, postgraduate students pursuing MS, MD, MPhil, and PhD degrees were also recognized for their academic achievements.

The guests included the Supreme Court’s Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and the Sindh High Court’s Justice Zulfiqar Ahmad Khan, adding prestige to the occasion.

In his address at the convocation, Chancellor Dr Asim Hussain extended heartfelt congratulations to the graduating students, including the inaugural batch of law graduates, recognizing their remarkable achievements. He remarked, “Ziauddin University has been the first university to be established in Education City, and today is a historic moment for Karachi and an honour for us for organizing the first convocation in the Education City, a vision that came to fruition after two decades of effort.”

He encouraged the students, saying, “Your dedication, perseverance, and hard work have brought you to this moment of triumph. As you embark on this new chapter of your lives, I urge you to remember the values that have guided you thus far: integrity, empathy, and a thirst for knowledge. As educated individuals, you have the power to effect positive change in the world. Whether it be through groundbreaking research, innovative solutions, or acts of kindness, each one of you has the ability to make a difference.”

“Graduating lawyers of the first batch we have instilled in you with virtues and best knowledge under the dynamic leadership of your Dean Dr Shaista Sarki and has trained you to face challenges, to be bold in your pursuits, to dream big, and to never settle for mediocrity,” he emphasized.

Dr Asim Hussain urged the students: “Never forget the importance of compassion and empathy. Take the time to listen to those whose voices are often marginalized, to stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves, and to build bridges of understanding across cultures and communities.”

He concluded his speech by quoting the great Nelson Mandela words: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” He said: “Go forth and wield that weapon with wisdom, with courage, and with compassion. The world needs leaders who are unafraid to challenge the status quo, who are willing to speak truth to power, and who possess the courage to forge new paths forward.”

At the auspicious occasion of the 21st convocation, the top 20 position holders for their exemplary academic performance during their time at Ziauddin University were awarded Sir Ziauddin Gold Medal. The medal recipients included Hamza Siddiqui (MBBS), Zaib-un-Nisa (LLB), Naveen Pasha (PharmD), Mohiba Akhter (DPT), Kanzaa (DOT), Saif-ur-Rehman (Medical Technology), Moazzam Ali Khan (Biomedical Engineering), Abdul Rehman Fazal (Civil Engineering), Wamiq Ali Khan (Software Engineering), Bushra Anzar (Biotechnology), Sheeza Khalid (Business Administration), Muhammad Osama (Electrical Engineering Technology), Talha Khilji (Biomedical Engineering Technology), Shahbaz Rasool (Management & Technology), Mirza Abdullah Baig (Data Science), Maha Farooq (Audiology & Speech Language Therapy), Mehvish Naz (Nursing), Shafia (Eastern Medicine & Surgery), Jalal Waheed (Civil Engineering Technology), and Rabeea Salman (Dental Surgery).

In her speech, Pro-Chancellor Prof Dr Nida Hussain congratulated all graduating students, emphasizing the university’s commitment to preparing them for a rapidly evolving world. She stated, “I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the graduates on this momentous occasion. We have equipped you for a dynamic landscape, where Artificial Intelligence, automation, and new skills emerge daily. Our focus has been not only on nurturing excellence and character but also on fostering adaptable minds for the modern era. We have instilled in you the crucial ability to learn, adapt, and innovate, ensuring you are ready for the challenges of tomorrow.”

Earlier, in his welcome speech, Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Inayatullah Khan complimented the students, saying, “Over the past years, Ziauddin University has continued to excel.”
