ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Friday dismissed a petition seeking what it called Islamic presidential system in the country and held that the Constitution had mentioned the parliamentary system of government.
A three-member bench of the apex court — headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Qazi Faez Isa — heard the case. The chief justice remarked that the Constitution mentioned the system of Allah adding that according to Article 227 of the Constitution, no law could be contrary to the Quran and Sunnah. The petitioner took the stand that he wanted the Islamic presidential system in Pakistan.
The chief justice asked as to whom he wanted to assign all the powers.
“You should read the Constitution of Pakistan; the color of the constitution book is also green,” the CJP asked the petitioner. The petitioner sought time to study the Constitution but the court dismissed the petition and observed that he should read the Constitution and if he deemed necessary, then a new petition could be filed.
