Dar briefs politicians on formation of judicial commission

Qureshi says govt bound to constitute commission within seven days;PTI to decide rejoining assemblies today

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar on Saturday made several telephone calls to politicians from all parties to brief each regarding the formation of a judicial commission to probe alleged rigging in the May 2013 general elections.
According to media reports the people who were briefed included Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Sirajul Haq, PPP leaders Syed Khursheed Shah, Rehman Malik, Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani, Aitzaz Ahsan, National Party leader Mir Hasil Bizenjo, MQM MNA Farooq Sattar and Fata representative G G Jamal. All party representatives have congratulated Dar and the government for the formation of the judicial commission. Both the PML-N and PTI have reached an agreement over the judicial commission. —Online
Nadeem Shah adds from Multan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has convened its core committee meeting in Islamabad on Sunday (today) to decide rejoining the assemblies after a deal with the government about the Judicial Commission, The News learnt on Saturday.
Talking to The News over the phone, PTI Vice-Chairman Makhdoom Mehmood Qureshi said: “We will discuss rejoining the assemblies in the PTI core committee meeting because the government has accepted the prime demand of the party.”
Earlier, talking to newsmen at the Multan Airport before his departure to Islamabad, Qureshi said the government was bound to constitute the judicial commission within seven days after issuance of an ordinance for its formation. He said that the judicial commission would consist of the Supreme Court judges. He said that the electoral reforms committee should continue compiling recommendations for electoral reforms. He congratulated the nation on ending of the deadlock between the PTI and the government over formation of the judicial commission. He said that it was not the success of any person or political party but it was the victory of the political system. He appreciated Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for his cooperation in reaching a consensus.
About the Karachi situation, he urged the government to conduct the operation without any indiscrimination.
The operation must be extended against criminals involved in extorting money from the people, he added. He said that all political parties and people from all walks of life had extended their support to the Karachi operation for peace and tranquillity.
