Says any anti-Constitutional step will result in dangerous consequences
LAHORE: Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani on Tuesday suggested that only one institution should carry out the accountability of all, treating nobody as a sacred cow.
“Let things run their natural course and any attempt to change it will result in dangerous consequences,” said Rabbani while talking to the media after offering condolences over the death of former federal minister Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor at his residence here.
Rabbani said the country needed democracy and democratic institutions and warned that any anti-Constitutional step would result in dangerous consequences. He said all the political parties in the Senate were united on eliminating corruption and only collective efforts could eradicate it. However, he added, accountability should be carried out by a single institution.
Rabbani said the role of democracy and democratic institutions had to be there when it came to dealing with the current situation. He said the system would improve if it remained functional.
APP adds: The Senate chairman said the country needed democracy and democratic institutions. He said no matter how much slackness democratic governments show in resolving issues, the country had no choice but to continue with the current dispensation, as the system would improve only through democratic means.
About the across-the-board accountability, he said there was nothing new in it for the political parties which had been undergoing the process since 1947.The Senate chairman said he had presented some suggestions to the government in September 2015 to end corruption and their implementation would improve the system.
