ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar on Wednesday withdrew his appeal against the rejection of his nomination papers for contesting the upcoming general elections being held on February 8.
A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah heard the appeal of Hammad Azhar challenging the rejection of his nomination papers for National Assembly constituency NA-129.
Assistant of Hammad Azhar’s counsel appeared before the court and submitted that his client wanted to withdraw his appeal.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah told the counsel that his client will not benefit from withdrawing his appeal.
The counsel, however, replied that there was no problem in surrendering. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah asked the counsel as to why the High Court has referred to Article 62(1)(f) in its decision.
The Supreme Court’s decision is clear that Article 62(1)(f) does not automatically apply.
The counsel submitted that his client’s nomination papers were rejected on the basis of absconding, while the decision of Supreme Court regarding the eligibility of the absconder has also come.Later, the court dismissed as withdrawn the appeal of Hammad Azhar.
