OGDCL tests new oil well

HYDERABAD: The state-owned Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) said on Monday it had successfully tested and completed a new oil well in Sindh province, boosting its production capacity.

The company said in a statement that the Sono-9 well, located in Hyderabad district, was drilled to a depth of 2,350 metres and tapped into the hydrocarbon potential of the Lower Goru formation.

The well was the first to be directly completed with an electrical submersible pump (ESP), a technology that enhances the flow of oil from the reservoir, after thorough well logging and pressure testing, company said in a statement.

"We are pleased to share that the development well Sono-9 in Sono Development & Production Lease (D&P.L) has been successfully tested, completed, and brought into the production stream using OGDCL’s in-house expertise," it said.

"The well was drilled to a depth of 2350 meters, targeting the hydrocarbon potential in the Upper Sand (1B) of the Lower Goru formation. OGDCL holds a 100 percent stake as the operator in Sono D&P.L. Sono-9 well is located in district Hyderabad, Sindh." It is pertinent to mention that Sono-9 is the first well to be directly completed with Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) after due diligence through well logging and pressure testing.
