PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday disposed of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s plea after the party withdrew its writ petition seeking the initiation of contempt of court proceedings against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after the Supreme Court’s decision upholding the ruling of electoral watchdog on its intra-party election.
A division of bench of PHC comprising Justice SM Attiq Shah and Justice Syed Arshad Ali disposed of the petition after the PTI counsel Shah Faisal Ilyas informed the court that the petitioners wanted to withdraw its writ petition against the ECP after the SC decision. It may be recalled that the PTI had recently moved the PHC seeking contempt proceedings against the ECP over its failure to implement the court’s directives in the ‘bat’ symbol case.
