Although elections are now less than a month away, some senators are still seeking to delay the elections. Over the past two weeks or so, three resolutions have emerged in the Senate seeking to delay the elections, with the latest being submitted to the Senate Secretariat on Sunday. Similar to the first two resolutions, it cites extreme cold, snowfall, and the security situation as reasons to delay the polls.
There are many examples of democratic countries, including Pakistan, holding timely elections despite an adverse security climate or natural disasters. It is imperative that the elections, already delayed for an extended period, proceed without further postponement. Establishing an elected constitutional government promptly is crucial to eliminating political uncertainty and economic instability.
