KARACHI: The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) vowed on Tuesday to address the grievances of small traders and shopkeepers, who are facing rising crime, poor infrastructure and harassment by tax authorities.
KCCI President Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh met with a delegation of the All City Tajir Ittehad (ACTI), an association of traders from various markets in the city, and assured them of his support and cooperation.
He said KCCI would take up their law and order, civic and infrastructure related issues with relevant departments on top priority and ensure that relief was provided at the earliest. Sheikh also urged them to join KCCI's subcommittees and stay connected with the chamber, which was available 24/7 to serve them without any discrimination.
ACTI President Hammad Poonawala and other members expressed their concerns over the increasing street crimes, dacoities and extortion demands in the markets, as well as the deteriorating road conditions and the problems caused by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials.
