He had decided to contest from Lahore because it had been the city of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto: says Bilawal
LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Sunday that leaders who ruled Lahore were imposed upon the nation by Gen Zia, Gen Hamid Gul and Gen Faiz Hameed.
Addressing various corner meetings in his constituency NA-127 here, he said he had decided to contest from Lahore because it had been the city of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. He said the city had elected those two leaders who always linked themselves with the masses.
Apparently referring to Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan, he said the city did not belong to any karobaari (trader) or khilari (player) but to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto, who were voted to power by people always.
Bilawal urged the PPP Jiyalas to go door to door as party’s ambassadors and spread the message of Peoples Party, which wanted to provide every possible relief to the nation after coming to power. Bilawal promised to provide free electricity to the poor people up to 300 units.
Also, talking to the media in NA-127 constituency, he said a perception was being created on the television that Lahore was a heaven-like place on earth. But he had toured the city and knew it well that Lahore needed a lot of work to make it a great city. He said people from every strata of society live here, but the government always represents the elite. Bilawal said the PPP represents every strata of society and believes in inclusive politics. The PPP’s 10-point agenda would resolve issues such as unemployment, poverty and inflation. Former members of the PTI and PMLN, including Shehryar Bokhari, Nawab Tahir Sial and Faheem Ahmad Khan, also announced joining the PPP after holding a meeting with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
