An optional feature to add a verified badge to the WhatsApp channels is in works, as the Meta-owned messenger continues to bring improvements to the app, WABetaInfo reported.
The feature is being created for WhatsApp on Android, which will allow the business accounts to have a verified badge on their channels.
As per the WhatsApp news tracker, the businesses will be able to activate badge for their channels by subscribing to Meta Verified.
As shown in this screenshot, WhatsApp will soon have a new screen for business accounts containing the option to add a verified badge to their channels.
It may be noted that the exclusive ability for businesses to subscribe to Meta Verified will be available in the future, and will give them a verification badge for their profile and other advantages.
However, the option of verified badge will not be extended to individual users and non-business accounts.
As per WABetaInfo, the decision to allow businesses to add a verified badge to their channels through the Meta Verified subscription represents a strategically significant move designed at amplifying business visibility.
"Businesses will gain increased prominence through the verification checkmark, indicating authenticity, and it seems they will also be added to the channel directory," it said.
The ability will help businesses boost their credibility and make them easier to be found on the platform.
