ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Saturday decided to hear the matter of replacement of IGP and Deputy Commissioner (DC), Islamabad, in an open court.
Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja presided over a meeting here at the commission’s secretariat, which was attended by all the four members of the commission and other senior officials.
The forum considered the request of Interior Ministry not to change the two officers which had made this request in the light of an Intelligence Bureau report.
The report of the Intelligence Bureau was reviewed during the meeting, after which the commission decided to fix the case of IG Police Akbar Nasir Khan, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon soon, which will be heard in an open court.
The Election Commission had summoned the secretary Establishment on December 26 and sought the compliance report from him on its orders regarding the two senior officers. He had briefed the forum about the related process but urged to review its order in view of the security situation in the federal capital, citing the Ministry of Interior. The Election Commission had ordered the transfer of the two senior officers and the caretaker prime minister had agreed to it and sought a panel of officers to be selected for the two key posts. On the request of the secretary Establishment, the chief election commissioner had said that the commission would see the report of the Ministry of Interior and directed him to focus on the panel of names for the two posts.
