Mohenjo Daro was designated a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1980. This archaeological site is threatened by groundwater, salinity, humidity, rainfall and improper restoration. Attempts at conserving it were so bad and amateurish that they only accelerated the process of its decay.

Even the museum adjacent to the site has been looted, with many of its famous seals missing. experts have gone so far as to suggest that the entire site should be buried again to halt its decline. In 2012, archaeologists warned that without improved conservation measures, the site could disappear by 2030. In view of this the government of Sindh should make serious efforts at conserving it.
