Poems forever
Past, Present, Future
By Emily Brontë
Tell me, tell me, smiling child,
What the past is like to thee?
‘An Autumn evening soft and mild
With a wind that sighs mournfully.’
Tell me, what is the present hour ?
‘A green and flowery spray
Where a young bird sits gathering its power
To mount and fly away.’
And what is the future, happy one?
‘A sea beneath a cloudless sun;
A mighty, glorious, dazzling sea
Stretching into infinity.’
Escape
By Alina Y. Mughal
Locked in a swinging cage
Like a pendulum of Grandfather’s rage
I can’t leave
Or so I’ve been told
So, I ink my skin
Dye my hair
Pierce a hole,
Where a smile wanes
And I almost fool myself
Into thinking I’m breathing free air
But something in my heart stings
I’m forced to remember cut wings
I change and morph
All these changing states
As if clean are all my slates
You write me off as a rebel
But I don’t want no trouble
All I ache for is escape
X-BFF
By Haseeb Sultan
Say you’re my friend,
I’ll say you were.
Say we had good times,
I’ll ask at what expense?
Lies.
Time.
Money.
Insecurities.
A battle turned into a war.
Our black souls can’t hide.
We’ve covered our own skies
With cracked sentiments.
Only to be left with hands
that don’t shake anymore.
Rhapsody
By Zahra Akbar
Rhapsodic whispers,
at my door. No one was there;
and that rings a bell
Just enough to feel
By Jojo Khan
Sometimes I don’t feel pain.
But then I remember
The screwdriver I have
Buried in my fern green jacket
I reach with clammy hands
Hold the scarlet handle
And aim the Philips head at my thigh
I stab, a little, just enough to feel
That I have a beating heart indeed.
To have a friend beyond all bars
By Aruba Nawaz
Once you wished while staring at the skies,
To have a friend beyond all ties.
That night we wished,
That night we prayed,
Together our prayers
Were heard this way.
Game
By Mah Gul
I want the sun to shine on me,
To melt away the icicles of pain.
And the clouds to wiggle,
And pour some rain,
To mingle with the tears that make me drain.
The angels to descend,
And embrace me in their wings,
Protect me from the mighty game.
The stars to twinkle,
And lullaby me,
And hold me away from the dreadful dream,
Dream of fate that I bear and sustain.
Love
By Zunaira Afzal
Love,
An eternal dream
A blink of eye can’t break it...
An eternal bound
A slight tug can’t separate it
from beloved...
A spiritual season,
life can’t partake it...
Beyond mortality...
Against all the rules of life
Love is...
Just LOVE.
