Hyderabad: The Sindh University Teachers’ Association (SUTA) and Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (Fapuasa) Sindh chapter have called protests against the nomination of two faculty members of the Sindh University (SU) in an FIR.
The FIR has been lodged against Director Student Affairs Dr Younas Laghari, and Provost Dr Pasand Khoso after anti-state slogans were allegedly shouted in an event at the varsity.
In this connection, the SUTA had also called for other varsities in the province to observe ‘black day’. The SUTA itself held a protest from the Zero Point of the SU to the Indus Highway.
The protesting teachers announced suspension of academic activities at the SU until the names of teachers were not removed from the FIR. They warned of holding protests on a daily basis if their demand was not met.
SUTA leaders urged the SU vice chancellor to immediately contact the chancellor of the university or the higher authorities of the Sindh government and police to exclude the names of the faculty members from the FIR.
The association said it demanded that the Sindh chief minister provide protection to the teachers so that they could perform their duties without any fear.
The SUTA announced that it would not cooperate with the administration until the faculty members were provided protection. It also announced boycott of the examination scheduled for today (December 19).
