There is no denying that Bollywood has become the ‘next big phase’ for many Pakistani artists. Following in the footsteps of Strings, Shiraz Uppal and many others, Ali Noor of Noori has finally found a spot on the music credits for upcoming Bollywood film, Dear Dad. According to the press release, the singer was approached by director Tanuj Bhramar for the song titled ‘Girha’, earlier this year, after he heard the band’s 2005 rendition of ‘Saari Raat Jaga’ in Coke Studio and was blown away by it.

‘Girha’ is a fresh, upbeat, spirited song that is more a lyrical representation of the father-son journey that the film depicts. And while the sound of the song is a departure from what Noori is essentially known for, it isn’t your typical Bollywood composition either. It’s hip, contemporary and soul-stirring without being overly melodramatic. Ali is at his husky bit and his command over the soft pitch is reminiscent of his powerful vocals in ‘Manwa Re’. It surely is a great debut and one that Ali should be proud of.

Interestingly, the song also marks the debut of its music composers Raghav and Arjun. On working with the duo, Ali said in a press statement, “This is the first time in my life I have recorded a song where I didn’t have to compose the music and so it was truly a brilliant collaboration. Even though it was hard, these people were very helpful and very supportive.”

Dear Dad is a coming of age film about unexpected confessions between a father and a son and is set to release on May 6.
