The University of Karachi (KU) has awarded an MPhil degree to senior journalist and student of the mass communication department Muhammad Shakir Hussain at a recent meeting of the Board of Advanced Studies & Research held under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Muhammad Khalid Iraqi.
Hussain completed his thesis titled "Comparative analysis on the role of two Urdu newspapers Jang and Nawa-e-Waqt in 1974 during the movement of Khatam-e-Nabawat" under the supervision of Dr Asmat Ara, the chairperson of the KU mass communication department.
It is pertinent to mention that Hussain has remained associated with print and electronic media houses in the capacities of reporter and sub-editor for the last two decades.
He also served at educational institutions, including the KU, Indus University, Awaz Institute of Media and Management Sciences and Allama Iqbal Open University.
Meanwhile, another working journalist Oonib Azam completed his thesis titled "Study of exposure to Digital Foreign Media Video Streaming Content and alcohol use among Pakistani youth" under the supervision of the Mass Communication Department’s Assistant Professor Dr Raana Afzal. He was awarded an MPhil degree by the KU for this thesis.
Azam has remained associated with print and electronic media houses as a reporter for the last decade. Currently, he is associated with The News International.
