CDA to promote cycling as alternative transport

Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has finalised a plan for promotion of cycling as an alternate transport system across the federal capital.

Along with promoting healthy habit of cycling, the project which would be completed in three phases would also serve purpose of reduction in environmental pollution.

The Planning and Evaluation of wing of CDA has also finalised Rs1.265 billion PC-1 of the project for developing cycling lanes all over Islamabad. There would cycling lanes to be developed along roads for mechanical and electric cycles as the project would also help in resolving problem of car parking in Islamabad. The cycling lanes would be developed by cutting 10 feet width of greenbelt along roads.

The first phase costing Rs170 million would span over 34 kilometres having 24 cycle stations. It would be executed between February 2024 and April 2024. The phase two of 112 kilometres lance starting in November 2024 and having 48 stations would cost Rs795 million while 75 kilometres long starting between December 2024 and February 2025 would cost Rs300 million. According to PC-1, the stations would be used for parking of bicycles.
