KARACHI: Senior MQM leader Nadeem Nusrat on Monday called on Chief of the Army Staff General Raheel Sharif to meet his party’s delegation, soon after MPA Ashfaq Mangi parted ways with MQM to join Pak Sarzameen Party.
Speaking through a video link from London, Nusrat claimed MQM workers and leaders were being forced to change their loyalties and the party would provide the army chief evidence to corroborate its claim.
He also demanded the authorities lift a media ban on Altaf Hussain, rejecting all the allegations levelled against the MQM supremo.
Nadeem Nusrat said MQM workers were being threatened to quit the party, but added that 90 percent of party activists were not going to the “laundry” in Khayban-e-Sehr, a reference to Mustafa Kamal’s residence in Defence Housing Authorities (DHA).
He claimed that as many as 6,000 workers have been arrested by law enforcement agencies. “What sort of RAW agent are these who don’t resist arrests,” he said.
He also rejected allegations of employing strong-arm tactics to run the affairs of MQM. Nusrat said he had parted ways with the MQM after being diagnosed with cancer.
“I got involved in academic activities for four to give years. ‘I wasn’t even in Pakistan and those alleging MQM today were running it then,” he said.
Nadeem Nusrat said name of Ashfaq Mangi was included in Joint Investigation Team report and everybody knows about those involved in china-cutting.
He said MQM enjoys a massive public support and instead of allaying its concerns, a charge sheet against the party s being presented through media.
“Hurling accusations on MQM by distorting facts is injustice. Calling MQM enemy of state is propaganda” Nadeem Nusrat said.
