CHILAS: Diamer Police Sunday arrested six suspects following a gun attack on an Islamabad-bound bus in Chilas in which nine passengers, including two soldiers, were killed and 21 sustained injuries.

The bus ploughed into a goods truck due to the driver’s acceleration, prompted by the firing.

GB Interior Minister Shams Lone termed the attack an act of terrorism. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Diamer commissioner’s office said a case had been filed against the unidentified troublemakers. Diamer SHO Azmat Shah has apprehended six suspects.

Security has been tightened with the closure of all entry and exit points. Search operations have also been started leading to suspension of traffic on the Karakoram Highway for the day.

Deputy Commissioner Captain (retd) Arif Ahmad and Chilas Assistant Commissioner Sadaqat Ali confirmed these measures.

The funeral rites of the deceased, attended by GB Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan and senior army officials, were conducted and the bodies were later sent to their respective hometowns.

Shams later visited the injured at the Chilas hospital.
