In a dramatic twist in the murder case of the biomechanical engineer who was shot dead within the limits of the Sachal police station on Wednesday, a childhood friend of the victim turned out to be his murderer who committed suicide on Saturday to avoid arrest.

Police said the murderer of biochemical engineer Sohaib Nisar had been identified as Asim who allegedly shot and killed himself at a house in Sumar Goth within the limits of the Sacchal police station. Asim was a close friend and a business partner of Sohaib, police added.

Forty-five-year-old Sohaib who was the only son of his parents. He lived in Nazimabad while his office was located in the Hill Park area. Besides his regular job, he was also involved in the sale and purchase of cars.

He had gone to a place near Chandio Chowk on Wednesday where he was shot dead and his car snatched.

“With hectic efforts, and ground and technical assistance, we traced the car’s location and the police party was on his way to make the arrest but apparently, he received information about the police’s arrival, and shot and killed himself to avoid being arrested,” said Sacchal Station Investigation Officer (SIO) Ghulam Hussain Pirzada while talking to The News.

“They were both childhood friends and business partners, and had a monetary dispute,” the officer explained.

SIO Pirzada said it had been revealed that Asim had to pay millions of rupees to Sohaib.

“It seems that Sohaib had arrived to visit him [Asim], and they were in a car when Asim killed Sohaib and escaped with the car and mobile phones,” the officer mentioned.

Earlier, police had recovered both the mobile phones of the deceased Sohaib from ragpickers who had found them in a garbage dump in the Quetta Town area.
