The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) claimed on Friday to have arrested a ‘notorious dacoit’ wanted by police in several street crime cases.
According to the SIU, the arrested suspect, Abdul Shakoor, was arrested in a raid conducted on a tip-off in Wadi Islam Graveyard in the Khawaja Ajmer Nagri area and he belonged to a ‘Ali Zehri dacoit group’.
During the initial investigation, the suspect confessed to committing 15 street crimes and revealed that his gang snatched at gunpoint cash, mobile phones and other valuables from people, mostly in the Hamdard University, Hub Dam, Northern Bypass and Band Murad areas. He added that his gang leader Ali Zehri sold looted articles and then shared the money among gang members.
The SIU said that a pistol and three bullets were recovered from the suspect and an FIR was lodged against him under the Sindh Arms Act, while further investigation was underway.
