A few days ago, I was shocked to learn that a teacher was asked by a group of clerics to declare that he made a mistake by teaching Darwin’s theory of evaluation in his class, something which was part of the curriculum.
He was also coerced to declare that men were inherently superior to women. This incident took place in a remote area of Bannu in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, but could have easily happened anywhere in Pakistan. If this is the state of affairs regarding free inquiry and research in education, we have a lot of soul searching to do.
