SWAT: Unknown assailants shot dead the deputy superintendent police (DSP) of Shangla district when he came to the district courts here on Tuesday while a police constable accompanying him sustained injuries.
According to police, the incident took place in the Shahdara area of Mingora, Swat, where the assailants opened fire at DSP Shangla Muhammad Ilyas.
He died on the spot while a constable sustained bullet wounds. The deceased DSP was in his car near the district courts when he was fired at.The injured cop was shifted to the Saidu Hospital while police and security forces started a search operation to nab the assailants.
Our correspondent adds: Muhammad Shah belonged to the Shangla district while Yousaf Shah is a resident of Totakan area in Batkhela in Malakand Agency. They said the slain cop had come to Mingora for appearing in a case in a court. The body and injured cop were shifted to a hospital. The accused managed to escape.
The security forces and police launched a door-to-door search operation in the area soon after the incident. Sources said the law enforces had arrested several suspected persons during the search operation. The law enforcers beefed up security in the district and started vehicles search.
