ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Tuesday extended the judicial remand of PTI leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in the Judicial Complex attack case.
Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hasan presided over the case, as Judge Abual Hasanat Zulqarnain was absent.
Elahi was accompanied by his lawyer Sardar Abdul Razak. He was brought to the court amid tight security.
Duty Judge Raja Jawad directed the distribution of copies of challan to the accused and adjourned the proceedings till November 21.
Speaking to reporters outside the court, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said in the upcoming election, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz would face the consequences of previous government’s 16-month tenure. When asked about the three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s return, he suggested that Nawaz should hold his brother Shehbaz Sharif accountable for the inflation caused by, what he described as, the “failed policies of the PDM government”. He urged Nawaz to address the issues of inflation, suicides, and job losses created during the tenure of Shehbaz Sharif as prime minister.
“He’s trying to be Nelson Mandela number two but if that’s right, then he should reprimand his brother,” he said.
The PTI leader also pointed out that gas and electricity tariffs had increased significantly and mentioned incidents where teachers were mistreated while protesting for their rights. He further stated that everyone had pinned their hopes on the judiciary for the upcoming elections. “Equal opportunities should be provided to all in the elections. If equal opportunities are not provided, there will be chaos,” he said and suggested that only the courts could ensure justice. Asked how long he would continue supporting the PTI, he said there was no shortage of support and it will become evident at the time of elections.
