JIT formed in light of Sarfaraz Merchant’s evidence

ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry has constituted a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in the wake of evidence shared by Sarfaraz Merchant in connection with allegations of money laundering and RAW funding against leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).

Sarfaraz Merchant had, a few weeks earlier, handed over evidence over charges of money laundering and taking funds from India’s intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

The five-member JIT is being headed by Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director Mazharul Haq Kakakhel.

According to a notification, the JIT will examine Sarfaraz Merchant’s statement and evidence presented to the FIA.

The members of the JIT include Raja Tahirul Iqbal of Sindh Rangers, two members each from IB and ISI.

The team is tasked to submit its report within a month.
