Peshawar Police claim decrease in terrorism, crimes

PESHAWAR: The Capital City Police authorities on Monday said that a significant decrease has been reported in terrorism and crime in the provincial capital in the first quarter of the year when compared to the same period last year.

“All kinds of crimes as well as terror attacks have recorded a significant decrease in the first three months of the current year. A collective 50 percent decrease has been reported in the overall crime,” the Capital City Police Officer Mubarak Zeb told a press conference at the Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines on Monday.

He was flanked by Senior Superintendent of Operations Abbas Majeed Marwat, SSP Investigation Masood Khalil, SP Cantt Kashif Zulfiqar and others.Explaining the statistics, Mubarak Zeb said 669 proclaimed offenders and 706 others had been arrested in raids and search operations in Peshawar during the first quarter.

He added the looted Rs1.39 million cash, one 1.44 kg tola gold ornaments, 24 vehicles and 29 looted cellular phones were recovered and handed over to owners during the period.“If compared with the previous year, 106 murder cases were reported in the first quarter of the current year against 114 last year.

The kidnapping incidents dropped from 26 to 14, attacks on police from 32 to 10, robberies from 13 to 5,” said the CCPO. The official said motorcycle lifting and snatching was reduced to 18 from 33, theft to 47 from 73 and dacoities to 21 from 43.

The CCPO said officers and their men had taken a number of measures for improving security in and around the city that has resulted in an improvement in the law and order situation. He added that a number of cases had already been worked out while others were to be worked out soon.

Mubarak Zeb said the force had taken special security measures to counter extortion threats and the issue of calls from across the border had been taken up with the federal and provincial governments through proper channels, which will further improve the situation. He added more deployment had been made in the city as well as on the boundaries with tribal areas.
