ISLAMABAD: PPPP President Asif Ali Zardari Monday met JUIF chief Fazlur Rehman in a bid to cool down the political temperatures between the two parties.
In a 50-minute talk held at the residence of Fazlur Rehman, both the leaders discussed ways for a ceasefire on political statements against each other. On this occasion, Zardari also condoled the death of Fazl’s mother-in-law. In their official statements, both the parties restricted to saying that the purpose of Zardari’s visit was to condole the death of Fazl’s mother-in-law.
Zardari was accompanied by Dr Asim Hussain and Ms Rukhsana Bangash, while Senator Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri assisted Fazl. Both the sides agreed to hold meetings in future to cool down the political tension between the two parties before the elections.
Tension between the two former allies increased after their conflicting views on the timing of general elections in the country, as the PPP was continuously demanding the date for the general elections while the JUIF differed on their timing. Tension between the two parties increased further after the JUIF joined the anti-PPP alliance of GDA and MQM in Sindh and challenged the PPP in the next elections.
