The story of Syed Abdul Ghani Kaka, an elderly labourer in Peshawar, has galvanised individuals from across the world to generously contribute towards a relief fund established for him by the Radio Free Europe’s Mashaal channel. Similar is the plight of infants dangling in the arms of their so-called mothers begging alms in busy squares in Rawalpindi. The children do not seem to be in their senses, most probably drugged to make their condition seem even more pathetic to passers-by.

It is interesting to add that these women, often young and healthy, decline to work that is abundantly available in households. Obviously, they are members of some cartel amassing money through such mean acts. Philanthropists are requested to help build an institution of sorts where these hapless little souls can be given shelter.
