Mepco ordered to send defaulters’ cases to NAB

MULTAN: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has ordered the Mepco officials to send cases of defaulters to the National Accountability Bureau.

Addressing the Mepco Multan region officials here on Thursday, he said that action would be taken against them on providing electricity to defaulters. He ordered the Mepco officials to remove electricity meters and transformers of defaulters by setting aside political influence and pressure. He said that the efficiency index showed the Mepco delivered in the shortest period and all departments were working in the right direction. The minister ordered the Mepco officials to complete feeders’ bifurcation and change transformers before the arrival of summer.

Speaking on the occasion, Mepco Chief Executive Fazalullah Durrani said that the power sector was flourishing and developing under the leadership of the state minister. The industrial sector had been declared loadshedding free sector for the last eight months, he added.

He said that the recovery rate was touching to 101 per cent in the Mepco region. He said that 66,965 consumers were fined Rs460.6 million from July 2015 to February 2016. He said the Mepco had replaced 216,000 dysfunctional meters and installed 206,000 new connections.
