The horrific attacks in Brussels are reminiscent of the massacre in Paris a few months ago, and just like then, Muslims feel for Brussels today too. Despite the fact that a vast majority of Muslims condemn terrorist attacks, there is little they can do to eradicate the common perception in the West that all Muslims are terrorists. It is unfortunate that the whole Muslim community is being blamed for the acts of a few extremists.
Though the charged atmosphere leaves little room for Muslims to avoid the consequent backlash in the West, they should not let any opportunity of projecting true teachings of Islam go. Moreover, there is a need for the Muslim world to forge a united front to deny safe havens to militants. Also, the younger generation should be given proper education to prevent them from falling into the hands of extremists.
