Hello Ed,

I am an old reader of Us. I have been following the mag since I was in eighth grade. Now, I am married and have two children, five and seven years of age. I want them to grow up reading my favourite magazine, but there is nothing suitable for kids their age in Us. I think adding two pages for young children is a good idea, and hope you would consider my suggestion.

It’s good to know you still follow Us, Saria. However, we really regret we cannot, at this time, add pages for young children, as Us is a magazine for the youth. We have Disney for younger children, and it appears on Saturdays with the newspaper. Hope you understand.

Hi Ed,

He shoots dead people – click! Click! by Lubna Jerar Naqvi was a different sort of story, and I really liked it. It’s amazing how something so morbid can be funny, if one has a sense of humour. Ed, this week’s Poets’ Corner starring Amna Amer (To be a woman) and Mah Noor (Survivor) was too good!

Dear Editor,

I am an 18-year-old student and through Us magazine, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authority to a very important issue. In my college – and many other public colleges – most of the lecturers are useless; they don’t teach at all and just talk with students about frivolous topics in their respective periods. There should be some system of checks and balances for lecturers who just come to college to have a good time. Ed, private tuitions are very expensive and most of these teachers have a thriving tuition business. That’s why they don’t teach in class.

I really hope this matter is highlighted and taken care of.

Reflection

Narrated ‘Urwa (R.A):

That he was informed by ‘Aisha (R.A), ‘Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) went out in the middle of the night and prayed in the mosque and some men prayed behind him. In the morning, the people spoke about it and then a large number of them gathered and prayed behind him (on the second night). In the next morning the people again talked about it and on the third night the mosque was full with a large number of people. Allah’s Apostle came out and the people prayed behind him. On the fourth night the Mosque was overwhelmed with people and could not accommodate them, but the Prophet came out (only) for the morning prayer. When the morning prayer was finished, he recited Tashah-hud and (addressing the people) said, “Amma ba’du, your presence was not hidden from me but I was afraid lest the night prayer (Qiyam) should be enjoined on you and you might not be able to carry it on.” So, Allah’s Apostle died and the situation remained like that (i.e. people prayed individually).’
