The issue of 13 January was unimpressive; there was nothing bad in the magazine but it failed to capture my attention somehow. Maybe because you did not include my letter in the Us Mail!
I am an old reader and I think the magazine used to be very interactive and that is why it was so interesting. I remember how you people entertained us by publishing our favourite writers’ views on things of interest to us. There were debates on issues and even on the letters on page 2. It made Us and its content very real to us, if you know what I mean. Also, there are no light stories anymore and I think you should give another page to Comic Relief. Ed, I want the old Us back!

The cover story A letter to the youth (23 January 2023) by Sirajuddin Aziz was superb. What I liked best about the story was the writer’s genuine concern about the drug addiction issue. Also, his advice to trust parents when in a jam is spot on. I tried to hide my inability to understand maths from my parents. When they saw my marks on the result card, they were very angry and I did get a lot of scolding. But, after that, they got me a tutor to help me with my concepts and I became actually good at the subject I used to hate. So, yes, if you are in trouble, go to your parents.

In the issue of 13 January, I was charmed by the interview of Syed Nasir Shah and totally won over by An ode to winter by Rubab Aamir. Although winter is very harsh in my city, I enjoy it because it’s the season when eating is really fun. Very well-expressed, Rubab!

Narrated Abdullah bin Masud (R.A):
We used to say the greeting, name and greet each other in the prayer. Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) heard it and said: ‘Say, At-tahiyyatu lil-lahi was-salawatu wat-taiyibatu. Assalamu ‘Alaika aiyuha-n-Nabiyu wa-rahmatu-l-lahi wa-barakatuhu. Assalamu alaina wa-’ala ‘ibadi-l-lahi as-salihin. Ashhadu an la ilaha illa-l-lah wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abdu hu wa Rasuluh. (All the compliments are for Allah and all the prayers and all the good things (are for Allah). Peace be on you, O Prophet, and Allah’s mercy and blessings (are on you). And peace be on us and on the good (pious) worshipers of Allah. I testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and that Muhammad is His slave and Apostle.) So, when you have said this, then you have surely sent the greetings to every good (pious) worship per of Allah, whether he be in the Heaven or on the Earth.’
