Hey Ed,

The cover story, Cracking the Enigma code was really good and very informative. I love watching WW11 movies and since I also love Benedict Cumberbatch, I had seen The Imitation Game. In the same edition, I liked Grief history of time by Amna Ameer, what a wonderful poet she is, and equally good prose writer, too!

Ed, I also think you should restart US on Campus. Reading the interviews of the learned professors was very useful to me and I am sure for most of your readers as well.

Dear Ed,

I have been reading Us magazine for a long time, but it’s my first email to you. I love reading the magazine and thank you for sharing and writing such amazing articles. This has inspired me to write one as well.

Attached with this letter is my short story that I would like to share. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Iqra Tariq

Hi Iqra, your story is well-written, but the word count is not enough for one page. We need about 550 words for a one-page article or story. We definitely want you to write for Us, keeping the word count in mind!

Hi Ed,

The downside of dyeing hair by Dr SK in the issue of 13 January depressed me because I love dyeing my hair in all the funky colours that are in nowadays, So, after reading this article, I called the salon I frequent and asked their hair stylist if dyeing would damage my hair. She assured me that they use quality products to ensure no damage is caused by the hair dye.

I was also disappointed because the said article is written by a doctor. At least doctors should know their stuff, and should refrain from misleading people. Publishing articles about grooming, fashion and other stuff is welcome, but please don’t publish articles without checking the facts.

Rija Ali, Karachi

Hi Rija, we forwarded your letter for comments to Dr SK. She has suggested that you do your own research instead of relying on your stylist.

Reflection

Narrated Ibn Umar (R.A):

I heard Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) saying, ‘All of you are Guardians.’ Yunis (R.A) said: Ruzaiq bin Hukaim (R.A) wrote to Ibn Shihab (R.A) while I was with him at Wadi-al-Qura saying, ‘Shall I lead the Juma prayer?’ Ruzaiq was working on the land (i.e. farming) and there was a group of Sudanese people and some others with him; Ruzaiq was then the Governor of Aila. Ibn Shihab wrote (to Ruzaiq) ordering him to lead the Juma prayer and telling him that Salim (R.A) told him that Abdullah bin Umar had said, ‘I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, ‘All of you are guardians and responsible for your wards and the things under your care. The imam (i.e. ruler) is the guardian of his subjects and is responsible for them and a man is the guardian of his family and is responsible for them. A woman is the guardian of her husband’s house and is responsible for it. A servant is the guardian of his master’s belongings and is responsible for them.’ I thought that he also said, ‘A man is the guardian of his father’s property and is responsible for it. All of you are guardians and responsible for your wards and the things under your care.’
