Another two-year extension for DG IB

ISLAMABAD: Acknowledging the services of DG Intelligence Bureau (IB) Aftab Sultan, Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has, for the second time, extended his tenure by another two years.

Aftab Sultan, a Grade-22 officer of the Police Service of Pakistan (PSP), was first appointed as Director General IB in June 2013 and his term was extended to one year in 2015, which was going to end on April 2 this year.

Previously, he served as Commandant National Police Academy (NPA) and is widely reputed for being an upright, motivated and professional police officer.He has also served as SP and SSP in different cities of the Punjab, including Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sahiwal, Khushab
and Faisalabad. He also performed responsibilities as DIG Elite Force, DIG Welfare and Finance and Director Research and Development.

Being Regional Police Officer (RPO) Sargodha, he developed differences with former president Pervez Musharraf when he was instructed to increase turnout in the presidential referendum by pressurising the general public but he refused to do so and left the office.

Born in 1954 in Faisalabad, he got his Bachelor of Arts degree and an LLB and later joined the PSP in 1977.Owing to his excellent professional career, he was promoted to the position of DIG in 2000 and posted as Additional IG Finance and Welfare in Punjab Police in Grade-21.
