PESHAWAR: The chelum of those martyred during the Taliban attack on the Army Public School is being observed today.

The chelum of the martyrs was observed throughout Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where a public holiday had been declared with the main event being held at the Chief Minister House.

The event at the CM House was attended by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan who arrived without a protocol. After receiving criticism for his 21 vehicle convoy during his previous visit to Army Public School, Imran Khan had categorically stated that he would never use a protocol again.

Imran Khan announced that children injured in the attack at the Army Public School would receive treatment abroad if they could not be treated at the Shaukhat Khanum Hospital.

There was a protest outside the CM house by some of the parents who stated officials had misbehaved with them. Parents said they left the event inside after their protests fell on deaf ears of government officials with one even claiming that he had been pushed by the CM.

“My son has been injured and needs treatment. I have plead with officials but my pleas have fallen on deaf ears,” a parent of one of the injured students told reporters outside the CM House.

On December 16, 2014, Taliban militants attacked the Army Public School in Peshawar in one of the most brutal terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s history. 150 people mostly school children were killed in the attack.
